How to create a virtual photo booth for your event

1. Decide what a virtual photo booth needs to do

Before you build or book one, write down what your event needs: how guests will access it (a shared iPad on a stand, a QR guests scan with their own phones, or both), whether you want a 2x6 strip, a 4x6 postcard, or a square, and whether you need a branded template with a monogram or logo. Those three answers drive every other decision.
2. Pick the device and the browser
Any modern browser on iOS, Android, Mac, Windows, or ChromeOS can run a virtual photo booth. For a fixed booth spot, use an iPad or laptop on a small tripod facing a blank wall — the plain background makes the photos look consistent. For a guest-driven booth, generate a QR code that opens the booth on each guest's own phone. Both flows should launch straight into the camera view with no login or settings screens.
3. Design the template
The template is the frame around your photos — background art, logo or monogram, event date, and photo slots. Pick a format (2x6 strip is the classic 3-up, 4x6 landscape works for group shots, square is best for a shared iPad). Keep photo slots roughly the aspect ratio your camera captures, leave breathing room for text, and export at 300 DPI so prints stay crisp. 4. Set the capture flow
A good booth handles the countdown, the flash, and the strip assembly automatically. Aim for a 3-second countdown, a bright screen flash to light faces in dim rooms, and 3-4 photos per session so guests get a strip without waiting. Auto-save every finished strip to a private gallery so nothing gets lost if a guest closes the tab.
5. Share the booth with guests
For a self-serve setup, print the guest QR on a small tent card next to the iPad or on table cards around the venue. Guests scan, land in the capture view, and start snapping. For a hosted setup, load the booth link on one device and let guests take turns. Either way, offer an in-booth email step so guests can send themselves the strip right away — they'll share it before the night is over.
6. Download everything after the event
The whole point of a virtual photo booth is that every photo is already saved. After the event, open your gallery, download the full ZIP, and share it with guests. Keep the gallery live for a couple of weeks so anyone who missed a photo can grab it themselves.
